Western operations receives a Certificate of recognition
Supermetal Structures Inc., Western Division, is proud to announce that the western operations have achieved the Certificate of Recognition (COR) in safety. The COR in safety is issued to employers who develop and implement health and safety programs that meet established standards. These standards include:
- Employer policy and management commitment
- Worker competency and training
- Hazard control measures
- Hazard identification
- Inspection programs
- Incident reporting and investigation
- Emergency response planning
- Program administration
COR is an essential component of WCB's Partners in Injury (PIR) program. Certificates for the Alberta construction industry are issued by the Alberta Construction Safety Association and are co-signed by Alberta Human Resources and Employment.
The workers compensation board of Alberta has provided CHBA – Alberta with some key figures on lost time claims made in 2005. Reducing lost time claims and their associated costs is one of the most important benefits of obtaining the COR in safety designation.
- 228% more lost time claims were made from non-COR holders than COR holders
- The injuries of those without COR are more severe than those companies with the designation. Non-COR holder injured employees are taking an average of 32 days away from work, which is 32% more time away than COR holders.
- $7,156 is the average cost of a lost time claim for non-COR holders, and the cost is 7% less for COR holders.
Copies of Supermetal's Health and Safety program can be obtained by request for vendor pre-qualification requirements.
Information and statistics have been obtained from the COR website, http://www.chbaalberta.ca/cor/index.html and the COR Newsletter, Summer 2006.
