SUPERMETAL: 50 YEARS AND COUNTING
Open House Day
Saint-Romuald, August 16th 2009 - Supermetal Structures, located in the industrial park of St-Romuald is celebrating its 50th anniversary, this year. Held on August 16th, under a big top, uniting hundreds of persons, Mr. Jean François Blouin Supermetal’s General Manager, recalled the many projects that this company has designed and fabricated since its creation.
With modest beginnings of forged iron (staircases, guardrails etc) in 1959 located in the parish Saint-Pascal, in Quebec, Supermetal became fifty years later, one of the leading fabricators and erectors of steel structures in North America. A "leader" not only for its size (one of the top three (3) in Quebec) but especially in its innovative approach and its leading-edge technology.
All day long, the guests could visit the plant, where guides and Supermetal employees provided information on the various departments and equipment throughout the premises.
As part of Open House Day, Mr. André Bouchard, President of the board of directors took time to introduce both founders of the firm, the brothers Gérard and Léonce Bouchard.
For his part, Mr. Jacques Blouin, executive vice-president of contracts and administration, was there to underline the third generation takeover was in-place, by introducing the entire team of managers, as the leaders of this firm going forward on an international scale.
These speeches were followed by the presentation of the sculpture which is located near the door of the reception of the plant. It represents a map of the world, supported by steel pillars, where we can see anchored on one of its facades, the new Supermetal logo, which shows clearly that this firm, from our home, beams to everywhere in the world.
An in-house detailer, Mr. Serge Careau, who created the model of the sculpture, was the big winner among the 30 employees who participated in this competition organized to emphasize, in their unique design, the fiftieth birthday of Supermetal. For his work, he received a weekend package in the Estrie region in Quebec. The sculpture was designed and built by Supermetal employees. Also the unveiling of the sculpture was accompanied by a commemorative plate.
