First two contracts for Supermétal in Saskatchewan
Saint-Romuald (Québec) – Structural steel fabricator Supermétal Structures of St-Romuald is pleased to announce today the signature of its first two contracts in Saskatchewan, both totalling more than $6 M to fabricate or install over 1,600 tons of steel.
For Cargill Ltd, Supermétal’s construction division, Supermétal-mojan, will install 850 tons of structural steel in its canola crushing plant near Clavet, Saskatchewan. This plant, one of the world’s largest of its category, will see its capacity increased from 2,000 to 4,000 metric tonnes of canola per day. As for the second contract, Supermétal will fabricate 750 tons of structural steel for the Mosaic Potash milling expansion near Belle Plaine. The solution potash mine expansion is part of a long term $920 M expansion initiative to increase capacity at the mine by 2 million metric tonnes by 2017.
« As in Alberta, where structural steel is in great demand, Saskatchewan represents a high growth market for us. These first two projects will help us establish our presence there and fuel new, growing business », declared Jean-François Blouin, Supermétal’s General Manager. « We are quite happy to see our Western Canada share of business growing year after year, which speaks to the benefits we can offer as an experienced cross-national company », said he.
Supermétal is experiencing strong growth in Alberta. The manufacturer was recently awarded the mandate to manufacture and install the 11,000-ton structure of Eight Avenue Place in Calgary, better known as Penny Lane Tower. This prestigious $1 billion total project cost, consists of a futuristic 50-storey office and commercial tower in the heart of Calgary’s downtown core. Supermétal was also chosen to fabricate and install 3,000 tons of steel for the TransAlta/Epcor owned Keephills 3 coal-fired generation expansion.
